Acting on a tip-off, the police were staking out village in hopes of catching a wanted criminal by the name of Saddam.
Sambhal Sub-inspector Manoj Kumar of UP police was injured while trying to nab a wanted criminal and his accomplice.
The encounter took place in UP’s Alianekpur village early morning on Friday, Times of India reported. Acting on a tip-off, the police were staking out village in hopes of catching a wanted criminal by the name of Saddam.
According to the tip received by the police, Saddam and an accomplice were fleeing on a motorcycle and were set to cross Alianekpur when the cops tried to stop the, However, instead of slowing down their vehicle, the two criminals opened fire, injuring Kumar. However, the police were able to nab Saddam, who was wanted for several cases of loot, theft and even attempt to murder, after the latter was injured in retaliatory fire. His accomplice managed to escape.
The injured Kumar had earlier gone viral when videos of him screaming ‘thain thain’ while chasing two criminals surfaced on the internet.
The incident went so viral that some people in Delhi gathered on Diwali to chant ‘Thain Thain’ instead of bursting crackers with the message of celebrating an eco-friendly Diwali.
