43 Killed as Suicide Bomber Targets Clerics in Afghan Capital

A suicide bomber targeted a gathering of hundreds of Muslim religious scholars in the Afghan capital of Kabul on Tuesday, killing at least 43 people, Afghan officials said.

Public Health Ministry spokesperson Wahid Majroh said another 83 people were wounded in the attack, which took place as Muslims around the world marked the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad. He said more than 20 people are in critical condition and that the toll could rise.

Jet Airways ‘In Discussion With Various Investors to Secure Sustainable Financing’: CEO

Jet Airways on Tuesday said it was in active discussion with various investors to secure sustainable financing.

“We are in active discussions with various investors to secure sustainable financing to navigate through the current headwinds and create long-term growth. There is interest in our strong brand and confidence in our business turnaround efforts,” Jet Airways CEO Vinay Dube said in a letter to its passengers.

There had been a round of buzz that Tata Sons, the holding company of Tata Group, was carrying out a due-diligence on Jet Airways.

Tata Sons in its reaction has said, “We would like to clarify that any such discussions have been preliminary and no proposal has been made.”

Ajay Chautala’s Party to Contest Assembly, LS Polls Next Year

Former Haryana chief minister Om Prakash Chautala’s elder son Ajay Chautala on Tuesday said his new party will contest next year’s assembly elections and the Lok Sabha polls from all 10 seats in the state.

Ajay Chautala new party is being launched next month following a split on Saturday in the Indian National Lok Dal, a result of the power struggle between him and his younger brother Abhay Chautala.

He said the name of the new party will include ‘Jan Nayak’, an apparent reference to the Chautala brothers’ grandfather and former deputy prime minister Devi Lal.

“It’s time to follow the path shown by Chaudhary Devi Lal,” Ajay Chautala, who was recently expelled from the INLD, said.

Ajay Chautala, who is undergoing a 10-year jail term with father Om Prakash Chautala since 2013 in a teachers’ recruitment scam, said the new party will hold a rally in Jind on 9 December.

2nd Phase Of J&K Panchayat Polls Begin
