Bhuvan Bam, the young lad from Delhi, who has made millions go ROFL with his funny vines, has crossed 10 million subscribers today. This makes him the first Indian YouTuber to achieve this feat!

With ‘Bancho,’ ‘Hola’ and ‘Titu Mama’, Bhuvan Bam has played over 15 characters and crossed over 1.2 billion views. Let’s look back at the story of the man behind all the characters — Bhuvan himself.

Before becoming a YouTube sensation, Bhuvan AKA BB used to sing at bars and cafes in Delhi. This was his primary source of income then.

His First Video Tanked With Less Than 18 Views

Initially, BB used to upload his videos on Facebook, before switching to YouTube on a friend’s advice. Reportedly, his first video titled ‘The Chakhna Issue’ barely received 20 views. He was still bent on making people laugh and continued uploading more videos.

The Kashmir Floods Changed Everything

In May 2015, while watching the coverage of the Kashmir floods, Bhuvan saw a TV reporter asking witless questions to a mother, who had lost her child in the tragedy. He instantly made a video satirizing the reporter. The video shot up and went viral all across the country and to date marks as turning point in Bhuvan’s career.

The video was watched by more than 15 thousand people and and likes on his Facebook page multiplied in a single night.

As BB just kept uploading videos, their crisp punchlines and timely dialogue people started imitating his characters. He remained the face of everything shared on social media. In less than a year, he became the first Indian YouTuber to hit 2 million subscribers.

What’s Fame Without Controversy?

Controversy came with his video titled ‘Papa Makichu’ – which was reported by musician Tahir Shah as a copyright infringement. Bhuvan later went online and asked his fans to reach out to Tahir Shah and inbox him to remove the claim.

Curious Case of Dr. Sehgal

The only character that BB stopped performing is Dr. Sehgal. Fans were seemingly disappointed with this move but Dr. Sehgal was an actual person, who lived close to Bhuvan’s house. After the news went public, people started to head down to Dr. Sehgal’s clinic and teased him about his character in the videos.

In an interview with Rajeev Masand, Bhuvan regretted copying Dr. Sehgal’s name and ‘retired’ the character.

Things Really Go Viral

In October 2016, Bhuwan collaborated with The Viral Fever for an episode of Bachelors vs. Landlords and announced his arrival in the industry.

He plans to release more music videos in the future and wants to establish himself as a songwriter in Bollywood.
