A brilliant century by skipper Virat Kohli and a disciplined bowling effort saw India defeat Australia by eight runs in the second ODI in Nagpur on Tuesday. India now have a 2-0 lead in the five-match series.
Chasing a target of 251 runs, the visitors were dismissed for 242 runs in 49.3 overs.
Asked to bat first, the hosts were bowled out for 250 runs in 48.2 overs after Kohli’s century and a disciplined innings from Vijay Shankar saw the team through.
Chasing 251 to win, Australia were in it going into the last over until allrounder Vijay Shankar trapped Marcus Stoinis on 52 with the first delivery, and bowled Adam Zampa on 2 with the third delivery
Australia was all out for 242 in 49.3 overs, and India led the five-match series 2-0. The third match is in Ranchi on Friday.
Virat Kohli, who was awarded Man of the Match for his 116, downplay his achievement and instead lauded his team-mates for the win. Kohli brought up his 40th ODI ton in the match.
With this win, India registered their 500th win in ODI cricket and Twitter couldn’t stop praising Shankar for his final over act and crucial 46 runs with the bat. In fact, many believe that with this performance Shankar might have booked himself a berth in Indian World Cup squad.
