MQM Chief Urges Indian Govt to Help Mohajirs in Pakistan

Altaf Hussain, chief of Pakistani party Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), on Wednesday, 13 February, urged the Indian government to help Mohajirs in Pakistan, ANI reported.

“Pakistan was not founded by Mohajirs of Pakistan, but they were their forefathers who did it. Mohajirs are facing genocide in Pakistan since 1947 and their children are a victim of sheer bias and discretion at the hands of the military establishment [sic],” ANI reported citing Hussain.

The Mohajirs are Urdu-speaking people who had migrated to Pakistan after the Partition in 1947. Hussain further asserted that Mohajirs are Indians and the Indian parliament should come forward to help them.

“India and Mohajirs are of same origins and, hence, the Indian parliamentarians should recognise them as their own family [sic]. The Indian government should also raise their voice at the United Nations.”

‘Pakistan Treats Mohajirs Like Animals’

Attacking the Pakistani government, Hussain claimed that Pakistan is ‘getting sold to China’ and the military is reaping the benefits.

He accused the government for treating Mohajirs like “animals”.

He further added that Mohajirs “had been duped in the garb of Islam” while the government inflicted pain up on them by constantly sidelining the group.

MQM is a secular political party in Pakistan that was formed in 1984 by Hussain. The party is split into two factions. One is based in London, controlled by Hussain, while the other one operates in Pakistan with Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui as its chief.
