Ceasefire Violation in Poonch

The Pakistan Army violated the ceasefire on 16 August night by firing on the forward posts along the Line of Control (LOC) in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, drawing retaliation from the Indian Army, PTI reported.

The Pakistani troops resorted to moderate firing on the forward posts along the LoC in the Poonch sector, defence sources said to PTI. The Indian troops guarding the border retaliated and the exchanges were on, they added.

Kingpin of Racket Involved in Trafficking Children to US Nabbed in Gujarat

The prime accused in a case of trafficking children to the United States was arrested by the Mumbai Police from Gujarat on Thursday, 16 August, reported PTI quoting official sources.

Rajesh Ghamelawala, 54, along with members of his syndicate allegedly sent children to the United States on demand, he said.

The racket was unearthed in March this year when two girls, in the age group of 11 to 16 years, were rescued by the police near a salon in suburban Versova where they were brought for make-up, the official said.

An Afghan man was arrested by customs officials at Delhi airport on Thursday, 16 August for allegedly trying to smuggle gold into the country worth about Rs 32 lakh, according to an official statement.

The passenger was intercepted after his arrival from Mazar-e-Sharif in Afghanistan on Tuesday, 14 August.

Huge Cache of Arms and Ammunition Found Near LoC

A huge cache of arms and ammunition was found on Thursday, 16 August during a search operation by the Army near the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district, an official said.

The early morning search operation in the Jhanjar area was launched a day after a soldier was injured on Wednesday when a major infiltration bid by militants was foiled.

“A large forest area has been surrounded. The operation is still on to ensure that no terrorist is hiding in the dense jungle,” a defence source told IANS.

Eleven Dead Due to Flash Floods in Sultangarh Waterfall in Madhya Pradesh
