A seven-year-old boy was killed and several others injured in an explosion in front of a multi-storey building in the Nagerbazar area of Kolkata’s Dum Dum on Tuesday, 2 October.
The deceased, identified as Bibhash Ghosh, reportedly died in the city’s SSKM hospital after he was shifted there once his condition worsened. According to local media reports, the child’s mother has also been hospitalised with severe burn injuries.
Meanwhile, Trinamool Congress MLA Purnendu Basu was quoted by ANI saying the blast was similar to an earlier one carried out by the RSS.

Speaking to ANI, police said four of the six people were ‘seriously injured’.
“It was a high-intensity blast. Four people were seriously injured, six injured. We found some iron nails, but can’t ascertain the cause of the blast yet as there is no smell of gunpowder.”Local police
The explosion took place outside a fruit shop on the ground floor of the building in Nagerbazar’s Kazipara area, which is under the jurisdiction of Dum Dum Police Station, at around 9 am, a police officer said.
The injured have been rushed to the state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, he said.
The building also houses the office of South Dum Dum Municipality Chairman, the officer said.
A forensic team and sniffer dogs have been sent to the spot to ascertain the nature of explosion, police told PTI.
